Description:An Article about Iyengar yoga
The Iyengar Yoga is said to be different from other methods of yoga in three key elements (taught in Iyengar yoga classes and centers). The three key elements are:
(i) Sequence: It refers to the order in which asana and pranayama is practiced. That is which posture should be done after which. The sequences to be followed bring changes to the entire life form and spiritual growth.
(ii) Technique: While practicing, every individual learns better changes in the position of how they perform their asana and pranayama. This key element is technique.
(iii) Timing: It refers to the time spent doing a posture. Postures should not be done quickly or without consciousness. One should know the time to be spent on each posture. Otherwise the benefits and prospective effects will be not as much when compared to what it should have been. Iyengar yoga is learnt through thorough study of asanas and pranayamas. Over 200 asanas and 14 pranayamas were systematised by Mr Iyengar. This includes simple and incredibly difficult postures. He arranged and classified it so as to allow a beginner to improve and safely do postures from basic to most advanced one and gain elasticity, power and synchronization of body, spirit and mind.
